We recommend that you have your child 6 years of age and older assessed if they have never taken swimming lessons, if you are unsure of the level of swimming or if they have not taken a course for more than a year. Simply make an appointment for $2.
The Red Cross Swim Preschool program covers three main areas of activity within levels: skills and water safety, swimming, and fitness activities. There are eight levels and the children start at the level that corresponds to their age, then progress according to their age and subsequently by their skill. The eight-level program encourages parents to enroll their children in swimming and water safety classes from an early age – babies as young as 4 months old can participate in the program. Older children learn in small groups with qualified instructors.
STARFISH (4 months to 1 year)
(must be accompanied by a parent in the water)
Babies tame the water; learn buoyancy and movement on the belly, back and vertical, as well as entry and exit into shallow water.

SALAMANDER (4-4 1/2 years)
(First 4 courses must be accompanied by a parent in the water)
Children improve front and back flotation, as well as jumping into the water at chest height without help. The kick is added to the front and back glides. The back ball is mandatory.

The Red Cross Swim Kids program is 10 levels tailored to the needs of today’s swimmers. Children can succeed at all levels and be proud of their achievement. Swimmers improve their distance in front crawl and back crawl (100 metres) in elementary back (50 metres) and breaststroke (50 metres). They learn the sailor boat (25 meters). They perform the dolphin’s (vertical) kick, the head-first and feet-first surface dives, with underwater swimming.
At the end of the level, they will swim a distance of 500 meters continuously.

The program has three levels: Initiated, Informed and Expert.
Initiated Level
The approach is effort-based, and allows you to develop the endurance and efficiency of swimming techniques while having fun. The child will learn, among other things, to perform the primary examination of a conscious victim, to communicate effectively with emergency pre-hospital services, performing a visual scan of an aquatic facility and effectively initiating an emergency rescue aid.
Level Warned
In addition to improving swimming techniques, the child will learn how to perform the primary examination of an unconscious victim, provide care to a victim in shock, treat a conscious victim who is choking, and perform a non-contact rescue using a floating object.
Expert Level
The child can now perfect his swimming techniques and develop his rescue and first aid skills. At the end of this course, the child will be able to, among other things, rescue a tired victim or a person who does not know how to swim, treat a fracture or an injured joint, and providing care to a victim who has difficulty breathing due to a severe allergy or asthma attack.
